JNPO: How a former MMA editor became a five-time Jeopardy champion

Jeopardy

Question: This former MMA editor-in-chief went on to become a five-time Jeopardy champion this year.

Answer: Ben Goldstein.

On a new Josh Nason’s Punch-Out, I introduce the uninitiated to Ben, the former EIC for Cage Potato, a humor-based MMA news site that was a big part of the MMA media ecosystem back in the post-TUF boom period for the sport.

But I was surprised to learn earlier this summer that Ben also wrapped up a run on the popular game show Jeopardy that saw him win five games and advance to the next Tournament of Champions.

Ben and I talked about the Cage Potato days, what eventually happened to the website, and how that set his Jeopardy story up earlier than he ever expected.

We then get into everything about how he got onto the show, his experience in Los Angeles, his five match winning streak, mastering the buzzer and betting strategy, and the controversy he created with an out of context quote about travel expenses he recently made but also sticks by.

This is a fascinating conversation about MMA media and Jeopardy. Where else are you going to get that?
